12/8/2016 – READY TO RUN? TRAIN FOR FREE WITH DERBY FESTIVAL AND NORTON SPORTS HEALTH

Dec. 8, 2016, Louisville, KY.   – If you’re planning to run or walk your way to the finish line of the Kentucky Derby Festival’s Marathon or miniMarathon in April, the Norton Sports Health FREE Training Program will give you a jumpstart. The 14-week program helps prepare runners and walkers for the Derby Festival’s road races.  Registration for the FREE program, opens online tomorrow, December 9, at DerbyFestivalMarathon.com.

The Norton Sports Health Training Program offers training guidelines and weekly group runs for participants of all levels of experience. The first 800 who register for both the Training Program, AND to participate in the Derby Festival Marathon or miniMarathon will receive a free tech pullover. The kick-off for the program is set for Jan. 12, 2017, at 6 p.m. at the Kentucky Derby Museum.

The kick-off includes distribution of the free training manual; overview of the 2017 Marathon and miniMarathon; as well as introduction of the Norton Sports Health Training Experts and Physicians. Participants will have the opportunity to meet and talk with members of the North Sports Health Team to get their questions answered before they begin training. Attendees will also have the chance to check out the exhibits at the Kentucky Derby Museum commemorating the annual Run for the Roses.

The 44th annual 13.1-mile miniMarathon and 16th annual 26.2-mile Marathon will be held on Saturday, April 29th.

Since 1956, the Derby Festival has worked to bring the community together in celebration. The Festival is an independent community organization supported by 4,000 volunteers, 400 businesses and civic groups, Pegasus Pin sponsorships and event participation. This involvement has made the Festival the largest single attended event in Kentucky and one of the leading community celebrations in the world.
