AMERICAN WINE SOCIETY IN TOWN FOR DERBY FESTIVAL WINE JUDGING
March 21, 2014– LOUISVILLE, KY – Members of the American Wine Society will be in Louisville next week to judge the best vino from wineries around Kentucky and Indiana. The judging will begin at 9 AM on Tuesday, March 25, at the Brown Hotel in the Louisville Room (3rd Floor).
This is the 8th year for the Kentucky Derby Festival Wine Competition, which is part of the Festival’s annual Kentucky Proud WineFest event. This year 162 wine varietals from 19 Kentucky and Indiana wineries will participate in the competition. They will be judged in one of several different categories: White or Red Native American, Hybrid or Vinifera, Non–Grape or Dessert wine.
The judging panel is composed of 12 experts from the American Wine Society who will use their experience to score the wines based on appearance, bouquet, taste/texture, aftertaste and overall impression. Since the wines are judged on a points scale it is possible to have multiple gold, silver and bronze winners in a given category.
The winning wine makers will see the fruits of their labor as they promote their wine as the best in the region and tote the prestige that comes with winning the award.
