July 16, 2026. Louisville, KY. – The Kentucky Derby Festival is looking for runners and walkers to help lead the way to race day! Applications are now open for the 2027 Race Ambassador Team. Ambassadors will represent the Kentucky Derby Festival’s 2027 Race Weekend, featuring the Festival 5K Presented by First Urology on Friday, April 23, and the Humana miniMarathon and Marathon on Saturday, April 24. Those interested can apply online through Monday, August 3, at DerbyFestivalMarathon.com.

The Race Ambassador Team is made up of runners and walkers who promote healthy lifestyles while encouraging and supporting participants throughout their training. Ambassadors help build excitement, share training experiences and keep the running community engaged throughout their journey to Race Weekend.

“The Race Ambassador Team has contributed to the continued growth and success of the Kentucky Derby Festival’s Race Weekend,” said Chris Martini, Kentucky Derby Festival Race Director. “Their enthusiasm, dedication and connection to the running community help encourage participants of all experience levels to be part of this spring tradition.”

Applicants are asked to highlight their passion for running and involvement in the running community. Those selected will become part of the Ambassador Team for Race Weekend and serve as recruiting liaisons within Kentucky and Southern Indiana’s running and walking community. They also attend Ambassador committee meetings and Derby Festival race events during their one-year term.

In addition to supporting race participants, Race Ambassadors receive a variety of perks, including official Race Ambassador merchandise and recognition on the race website.
