May 6, 2024. Louisville, KY. – Derby Festival fans who discovered a Gold Winner Pin in their 2024 Pegasus Pin Sponsorship envelope need to register online at PegasusPins.com by 5 p.m. Wednesday, May 8 to be eligible for the drawing of the $20,000 cash Gold Pin Grand Prize.
The winner will be announced on Friday, May 10 on WAVE. This year, the odds of finding a Gold Winner Pegasus Pin were 1 in 13, with 18,000 of the Gold Pins in circulation. All pins must be registered to be eligible. The Festival gave away a record 15 weekly Grand Prizes over the course of eight weeks, including shopping sprees, grocery gift cards and more unique experiences.
“For more than 50 years, the Pegasus Pin has been an iconic symbol of the Kentucky Derby Festival and springtime in Louisville,” said Matt Gibson, President & CEO of the Kentucky Derby Festival. “Beyond being a ‘ticket’ to Festival fun, the funds raised from Pegasus Pin sales allow us to continue producing one-of-a-kind events for the community.”
The Derby Festival collaborated with Churchill Downs on this year’s special Pin design, which celebrates the 150th running of the Kentucky Derby. It features the Festival’s Pegasus symbol and official teal color with the number “150” in red, a signature color of the Kentucky Derby. 2024 marked the 52nd edition of the Pegasus Pin.
Started as an awareness campaign for the not-for-profit civic celebration in 1973, the Pegasus Pin sponsorships are now one of four primary sources of funding for the Derby Festival. It has become a way for the community to support Festival events and show their pride in the region’s largest celebration.
Along with the chance to win Grand Prizes, each Pegasus Pin envelope also includes an offer from Great Clips, as well as three coupons that could be from a variety of retail and business partners including Kroger, Meijer, Publix, Mike Linnig’s Restaurant, Main Event, the Kentucky State Fair, and Kern’s Kitchen Derby-Pie®, just to name a few.
