Monday, May 8, 2023. Louisville, KY. – Derby Festival fans who discovered a Gold Winner Pin in their 2023 Pegasus Pin Sponsorship envelope need to register online at PegasusPins.com by 5 p.m. Wednesday, May 10 to be eligible for the drawing of the $20,000 cash Gold Pin Grand Prize.
The winner will be announced on Friday, May 12 on WAVE. This year, the odds of finding a Gold Winner Pegasus Pin were 1 in 13, with 18,000 of the Gold Pins in circulation. All pins must be registered to be eligible. The Festival gave away nine weekly Grand Prizes over the course of eight weeks. The 2023 Pegasus Pin Program included the new $20,000 Grand Prize.
This year’s Pin’s design came in three different color combinations, including the Derby Festival’s signature pink and teal, as well as orange and teal and green and teal. All three colors are on a white background. The geometric design of the Pins is inspired by styles from the 1980s and 90s. 2023 marked the 51st edition of the Pegasus Pin.
“The Pegasus Pin has become an iconic piece of plastic commemorating springtime in Louisville,” said Matt Gibson, Kentucky Derby Festival President and CEO. “Not only is it a “ticket” to a month’s worth of Derby Festival fun, but the funds raised from Pin sales help us continue producing our favorite events for the community.”
Started as an awareness campaign for the not-for-profit civic celebration in 1973, the Pegasus Pin sponsorships are now one of four primary sources of funding for the Derby Festival. It has become a way for the community to support Festival events and show their pride in the region’s largest celebration.
Along with the chance to win Grand Prizes, each Pegasus Pin envelope also includes an offer from Great Clips, as well as 13 coupons provided by retail and business partners, including Mike Linnig’s, Flying Axes, Rooties Sports Bar & Grill, the Kentucky State Fair, and Kern’s Kitchen Derby-Pie®, just to name a few.
