4/14/2014 – RACE WEEK ADVISORY

April 14, 2014. Louisville, KY.   – This Saturday, April 19, marks the Kentucky Derby Festival’s 13th Annual Marathon and 41st Annual miniMarathon presented by Walmart and HumanaVitality.  Combined registration for both races has reached 16,000 participants. Preparations for the largest day of road racing in Kentucky begin today and continue through the week.

Monday, April 14:

  •  4:00 PM – Volunteers will gather at duPont Manual High School to label the bibs for all the runners participating in this year’s marathon and mini.

 

Wednesday, April 16:

  •  Noon – 5 PM Over  100 vendors begin their load-in at the Race Expo and Packet Pick-up at the Kentucky International Convention Center in Hall 2D.

 

Thursday, April 17:

  •  8 AM – 4 PM Vendors continue load-in at the Race Expo and Packet Pick-up at the Kentucky International Convention Center in Hall 2D.
  •  4 PM – 8 PM Race Expo and Packet Pick-up opens at the Kentucky International Convention Center in Hall 2D.
  •  5 PM – 7 PM Race Expo Speaker’s Series at the Kentucky International Convention Center in Hall 2D.

 

Friday, April 18:

  •   9 AM Finish Line Set-up begins at Preston & Witherspoon Streets and will continue throughout the day.
  •  11AM – 9 PM Race Expo and Packet Pick-up at the Kentucky International Convention Center in Hall 2D.
  •  Noon – 5 PM Race Expo Speaker’s Series at the Kentucky International Convention Center in Hall 2D.
  •   5:30 PM – 8:30 PM Running Wild Past Dinner at the Kentucky International Convention Center in Hall 2D.

 

Saturday, April 19:

  •   7:25 AM:  Wheelchair Division starts on Main Street at Brook Street.
  •   7:30 AM:  Both races start on Main Street at Brook Street.

 

Since 1956, the Derby Festival has worked to bring the community together in celebration. The Festival is an independent community organization supported by 4,000 volunteers, 400 businesses and civic groups, Pegasus Pin sponsorships and event participation. This involvement has made the Festival the largest single attended event in Kentucky and one of the leading community celebrations in the world.
