Lane closures on Interstate 65 in Bullitt County April 25-28

Louisville, KY (April 23, 2014) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) District 5 Office advises motorists that both directions of Interstate 65 will be reduced to one lane this weekend in Bullitt County.  Contract crews are continuing work between the Bullitt/Hardin County line and Lebanon Junction Road (mile points 103.3 to 105.9) to replace sections of concrete pavement.

The right and center lanes on northbound I-65 will be closed from 9:00 p.m. on Friday, April 25 until 5:00 a.m. on Monday, April 28.

Motorists should expect heavy delays approaching this work zone.  KYTC is signing an alternate route for drivers that want to detour the construction area.  Motorists can follow the signed detour via the Bluegrass Parkway to KY 52 (Exit 10) at Boston.  Signs will then direct them to US 62 to KY 61, then KY 245 where they can proceed to northbound I-65.

The right and center lanes of southbound I-65 will be closed from 9:00 p.m. on Friday, April 25 until late Saturday evening, April 26.  KYTC is signing an alternate route for this direction as well to aid drivers that want to avoid the work zone.  Motorists can follow the signed detour via KY 841 (Gene Snyder Freeway) to US 31W (Dixie Highway) to KY 313 (Joe Prather Highway) and then reconnect with southbound I-65.

Construction began in March on this $20.7 million project to remove and replace various sections of concrete pavement across a 20-mile section of I-65 in Bullitt County.

Work is currently taking place in the southern portion of the project area.  Two lanes of traffic are open in each direction during the week.  The contractor is permitted to reduce the interstate to one lane in each direction on weekends.

The speed limit in the work zone is reduced to 55 MPH and double fines will be enforced.

Hall Contracting of Louisville, Kentucky was awarded this contract with construction scheduled for completion in November 2014.

The date and duration of this work may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen delays occur.  Dial 511 or log on to 511.ky.gov for the latest in traffic and travel information in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.  You can also get traffic information for the District 5 counties at www.facebook.com/KYTCDistrict5
