9/3/2014 – CELEBRATE DERBY FESTIVAL IN SEPTEMBER

2ND ANNUAL PEGASUS PIN PARTY SET FOR SEPT.

Sept. 3, 2014. Louisville, KY.   – You don’t have to wait until next spring to celebrate with the Kentucky Derby Festival!  The public is invited to the Festival’s second annual Pegasus Pin Party. The event is scheduled for this Saturday, September 6th, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Festival headquarters located at 1001 S. Third Street in Louisville.

The party will feature pin trading, exclusive discount pricing on all past year plastic pins as well as metal event, balloon and corporate pins from 1989 to 2014. Rare and collectable “Pin Out-takes” – pins that were designed and produced for the Festival but never put in circulation – will also be available for purchase.  Plus, an exclusively framed set of 2014 pins valued at $1,000 will be raffled at the event, with only 100 raffle tickets being sold.

New this year guests have the opportunity to bid on special collectors pin sets in a Silent Auction, including a complete set of Instant Win Pins (1987-2014), a complete set of Exchange Pins (1987-2014) and a set of Thunder Over Louisville pins (1992-2014). Other Festival collectibles and memorabilia like Official posters and postcards, glassware and Radko ornaments will be available in limited quantities. Guests can also purchase concessions, including a special lunch prepared by Chef Curtis, a.k.a. Butter, formerly of Kunz’s Restaurant.

The Pegasus Pin is the community’s best way to support Kentucky Derby Festival events every spring.  Revenue generated from the pins helps to underwrite (along with corporate sponsorship) the many free events of the not-for-profit Derby Festival, from Thunder Over Louisville to the U.S. Bank Great BalloonFest.

The Kentucky Derby Festival, Inc. is a private, not-for-profit civic organization that must raise all its funds privately to produce the annual two-week slate of nearly 70 events.  In addition to support from corporate sponsorship and merchandising royalties, the community actually helps produce the events it enjoys through personal contributions with the Pegasus Pin Program.

Since 1956, the Derby Festival has worked to bring the community together in celebration. The Festival is an independent community organization supported by 4,000 volunteers, 400 businesses and civic groups, Pegasus Pin sponsorships and event participation. This involvement has made the Festival the largest single attended event in Kentucky and one of the leading community celebrations in the world.
