3/3/2017 – 2017 PEGASUS PINS SHIPPING OUT TO A LOCATION NEAR YOU

Friday, March 3, 2017. Louisville, KY.   – Spring is on the way! The Kentucky Derby Festival’s 45th edition of the Pegasus Pin is shipping out to over 1,000 locations. Beginning on Monday, March 6, the pins will be available at grocery stores, gas stations, banks and other retail outlets around Kentuckiana from Elizabethtown to Louisville and in Southern Indiana, as well as online at PegasusPins.com. The pins are $6 each at retail locations and $7 at the entrance to events. Family Fun Packs, which include a package of 5 Pegasus Pins, also return this year for $25.

The Festival is giving away 8 weekly Grand Prizes and any 2017 Pegasus Pin will be your opportunity to win! New this year, there will also be a NEW Kentucky Derby Prize from Churchill Downs Racetrack. It includes 2017 VIP Kentucky Oaks and Derby Tickets.

To be eligible to win any of the prizes, pins must be registered using the KDF App or online at PegasusPins.com. The prizes will be given away weekly beginning Friday, March 17, through Friday, May 5. To find out if your pin is a winner, tune into Wave 3 News for the Weekly Grand Prize Drawings and the Gold Pin Drawing.

Pegasus Pin purchasers also have a chance to win one of the coveted Gold Winner Pegasus Pins.  With over 12,000 of these pins in circulation, the odds of finding a gold winner Pegasus Pin are approximately 1 in 20. In addition to the Weekly Grand Prizes, Gold Pin Winners are also eligible for a chance to win a 2017 Honda CR-V.

Along with the chance to win Grand Prizes, each Pegasus Pin envelope also includes 3 coupons provided by retail partners including Kroger, Raising Canes, Meijer and Liquor Barn, to name a few.

This year’s pin design is a throwback to the original Pegasus Pin designed in 1973. The plastic pin features a cutout design with a warm red colored Pegasus in the center, surrounded by gray, white and teal colors.

Started as an awareness campaign for the not-for-profit civic celebration in 1973, the plastic Pegasus Pins are now one of four primary sources of funding the Derby Festival events.  It has become a way for the community to have ownership in the Festival and show their pride in the region’s largest celebration.
