April 25, 2017. Louisville, KY. – The Race Expo and Packet Pick-up for the Kentucky Derby Festival Marathon/miniMarathon® presented by Walmart and Humana opens on Thursday at a new location. The Race Expo is temporarily moving to the West Wing of the Kentucky Exposition Center (KEC) on April 27 and 28, 2017. The Expo is traditionally held at KICC, but will relocate to KEC for both 2017 and 2018, until the renovations are complete.
More than 12,000 people are expected to attend the two-day Race Expo this week, open from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 27, and from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, April 28. Complimentary shuttles will be provided to transport runners from Downtown to the Kentucky Exposition Center. Runners not using the shuttle are encouraged to print a parking pass from the race website, and enter through Gate 4 (Crittenden Drive) or Gate 6 (Preston Highway) for easiest access to parking for the Race Expo. Runners will receive all the shuttle and parking details in their confirmation packets and can also find it online at DerbyFestivalMarathon.com.
Over 100 exhibitors will be set up at the event to showcase the latest in health and fitness products, athletic apparel, shoes and accessories and the Derby Festival’s official Race Gear will be available for purchase. The Expo features packet pick-up for the Kentucky Derby Festival Marathon/miniMarathon® presented by Walmart and Humana, as well as the PNC Tour de Lou cycling event.
Runners can also carbo-load on Friday, April 28, at the Running Wild Pasta Party from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Entertainment includes music, bar and a selfie station. All guests also receive a gift bag to take home! Tickets for the dinner are $20 and can be purchased at the door while they last. (Pasta Party tickets are for 21 and older).
There will be NO LATE ENTRIES for runners who want to participate in the races but are not registered. However, race organizers will offer 250 “Charity Bibs” for runners who missed the registration deadline. The bibs – which allow entry into either the Marathon or miniMarathon – cost $125, with proceeds going to the Kentucky Derby Festival Foundation, the Derby Festival’s charitable arm. The Charity Bibs will only be available at the Race Expo, first-come, first-served, beginning at 4 pm. on Thursday. The Charity Bibs are tax-deductible.
