January 27, 2025. Louisville, KY. – It’s all about the bling for Kentucky’s largest day of road racing! The Kentucky Derby Festival is sharing a first look at the finisher’s medals runners will receive after crossing the finish line for the 2025 GE Appliances miniMarathon and Marathon. This year’s medal is rose gold and embellished with the Derby Festival’s Pegasus symbol surrounded by a starburst design.
“Each year the finisher’s medal is a unique design to commemorate the hard work of our participants as they cross the finish line,” said Chris Martini, Kentucky Derby Festival Race Director. “This year’s medal celebrates the excitement of the Derby Festival season and the accomplishment of running Kentucky’s largest road race.”
The medals for the miniMarathon, Marathon and Relay feature signature colors from both the Race (blue) and the Festival (pink). The medal ribbons say “Happy Derby!” and align with the Festival’s “Happy” marketing campaign that fans will see in the upcoming season.
Finisher medals were first introduced to the miniMarathon in the late 90s. Over the years, the finisher’s medal has featured everything from the race logo and colors to the city skyline, Louisville landmarks, as well as a horseshoe, the outline of the state of Kentucky and a rose in celebration of the 150th running of the Kentucky Derby in 2024.
2025 marks the 52nd annual miniMarathon and the 24th run of the Marathon. The GE Appliances miniMarathon and Marathon will start simultaneously on April 26 at 7 a.m. on Main Street near Slugger Field. New for 2025, the Finish Line will return to Preston and Witherspoon streets, just outside of the Waterfront. Runners can register for the GE Appliances miniMarathon and Marathon at DerbyFestivalMarathon.com.
