The Beef Checkoff funds these programs. The Kentucky Beef Council office is located in Lexington, in the same building as the Kentucky Cattlemen’s Association (the membership division of Kentucky’s beef industry). Derby-Pie®, as it has come to be known, was born over a half century ago as the specialty pastry of the Melrose Inn in Prospect, Kentucky. George Kern, the manager of the restaurant, developed the recipe with the help of his parents, Walter and Leaudra. Since starting play in 2015, Louisville City FC, Kentucky’s only fully professional soccer club, has quickly established a reputation both for winning on the pitch and solid fan support off it.

LouCity, as we’re often referred to, is a member of the United Soccer League, now sanctioned Division 2 by U.S. Soccer, only one level below Major League Soccer. The USL includes 33 teams across the country, some of them independent and others acting as close affiliates with MLS clubs.

Beginning in 2020, LouCity moved from Louisville Slugger Field to the new Lynn Family Stadium, a soccer-specific facility in the Butchertown neighborhood just east of downtown. It can accommodate 15,304 fans and also serves as home to Racing Louisville FC, the organization’s National Women’s Soccer League franchise that launched in 2021.
