COMPETITION HEATS UP WITH NEW CHEF DIVISION
February 14, 2020. Louisville, KY. – Is your burger recipe top shelf? The Kentucky Derby Festival and the Kentucky Beef Council are looking for the next ‘Derby Burger’ Champion. New this year, chefs are invited to join the competition, along with local foodies. Burger recipes are being accepted now through March 9 in the ninth annual beef showdown sponsored by the Kentucky Beef Council. Recipes can be submitted online at www.kdf.org/beef.
“This competition showcases two of our state’s favorite things – Kentucky beef and a delicious burger,” said Katelyn Hawkins, Kentucky Beef Council. “With so many talented chefs in Kentucky restaurants and home kitchens, we’re excited to see what kind of burgers they cook up for us this year.”
Participants are encouraged to use a creative description, photo and name of the burger as part of their submission. All burgers must be 100 percent beef. The burger recipes are judged based on Taste, Appearance, Creativity and Ease of Preparation. The winning burger will be featured at Kroger’s Fest-a-Ville during Derby Festival, sampled at BeerFest presented by Liberty Financial. The winning chef also receives four VIP tickets to Thunder Over Louisville, four tickets to a concert at Kroger’s Fest-a-Ville, tickets to BeerFest, as well as a $100 gift certificate to Kroger, a feature inside Louisville Kroger stores and a grilling prize pack from Kentucky Beef Council.
Since 1956, the Derby Festival has worked to bring the community together in celebration. The Festival is an independent community organization supported by 4,000 volunteers, 400 businesses and civic groups, Pegasus Pin sponsorships and event participation. This involvement has made the Festival the largest single attended event in Kentucky and one of the leading community celebrations in the world.
