04/04/24 – PNC TOUR DE LOU CYCLES THROUGH CITY NEXT WEEKEND

SPOTS ARE STILL AVAILABLE FOR PNC TOUR DE LOU

April 4, 2024. Louisville, KY. – The Kentucky Derby Festival’s annual cycling experience – the PNC Tour de Lou – is set to take a spin through Louisville next weekend on Sunday, April 14. The event’s start and finish will move to Louisville’s NuLu neighborhood for 2024, and, for the first time, all participants will receive a medal. Plus, cyclists have the opportunity to ride through Churchill Downs, just weeks before the horses run in the 150th Kentucky Derby. Interested cyclists still have a chance to secure their spot for the event. Registration is open online at KDF.org.

The Derby Festival partners with the Louisville Bicycle Club to produce the premier ride, which is in its 11th year, and features distance options for all experience levels. The 2024 PNC Tour de Lou will start and finish at NuLu Marketplace on Main Street in NuLu for all three distances – 20 miles, 35 miles and 62.1 miles (Metric Century). The course previously started at Floyd and Witherspoon Streets, in front of Waterfront Park.

Riders will experience the sights and sounds of the trendy NuLu neighborhood. Participants will also pass through some of the city’s scenic parks, historic spots and attractions, including the Old Louisville neighborhood, downtown Louisville, parts of the picturesque Olmsted Park System and more. The Metric Century course encompasses two states – Kentucky and Indiana. All three cycling distances are on an open course, so no streets are closed.

New this year, all participants who finish the ride will receive a commemorative medal. Inspired by cycling and Derby 150, the design features a bike gear and a rose front and center. The custom design is set against a light blue and green color palette to symbolize the colors of the Bluegrass. All participants also receive a ride shirt, a virtual swag bag and an invitation to the post-ride party.

Starting times for the event on April 14 are staggered based on distance: Metric Century – 8 a.m., 35-mile ride – 8:15 a.m., 20-mile ride – 8:30 a.m.

A virtual alternative is available for those who prefer to log their miles on their own. Riders who participate in the virtual option can still choose to complete the 20-, 35- or 62.1-mile distance and have until May 14 to complete their distance. Participants can ride at their own pace – and even their own route – over multiple days.
