RUNNERS RETURN TO DOWNTOWN FOR DERBY FESTIVAL ROAD RACES: KENTUCKIANS LED THE WAY ACROSS FINISH LINE
April 30, 2022. Louisville, KY. – The GE Appliances Kentucky Derby Festival miniMarathon and Marathon kicked off this morning with breezy and warm running conditions. An estimated 8,000 runners registered for this year’s race. 2022 marks the 49th annual miniMarathon and 21st annual Marathon.
Several Kentuckians won for the first time during the state’s largest day of road racing, including the top finishers of the miniMarathon. Jarrett Mattingly of New Haven, Ky., led the way in the Men’s Division, and was all smiles and had his hands in the air in victory, as he crossed the finish line. His time was 1:08.46. Louisvillian Caroline Gosser was the top runner in the Women’s Division. It was an emotional moment when she hugged her dad, who was watching in the crowd, after crossing the finish line. Her time was 1:17.49.
Antonio Marchi of Lexington won the full Marathon in the Men’s Division for the first time with a time of 2:25.41. After his win, instead of opting for a water to hydrate, he toasted his victory, while smiling for cameras, with an Old Fashioned – Louisville’s Official Cocktail – courtesy of Bardstown Bourbon Company, the Official Bourbon of the race. Tricia Hengehold of St. Louis was also a first-time winner and the top finisher in the Women’s Division with a time of 2:56.53.
The GE Appliances Kentucky Derby Festival miniMarathon/Marathon set off at 7 a.m. on Main Street near Slugger Field and finished just outside of Lynn Family Stadium.
