April 30, 2016. Louisville, KY. –The Kentucky Derby Festival Marathon and miniMarathon presented by Walmart and Humana kicked off this morning with cool and wet running conditions. This year’s races had around 15,000 registered participants. 2016 marks the 43rd annual miniMarathon and 15th annual Marathon. But the wet weather didn’t slow down the participants.
Aaron Pike of Savoy, IL, won his second miniMarathon in the Men’s Wheelchair Division and broke his own course record. Pike first won the race in 2014, setting a course record of 48.52. He broke that record today with a time of 47:28. Aerelle Jones of Nicholasville, KY won the miniMarathon Women’s Wheelchair Division with a time of 1:16:10.
Pius Nyantika of Grand Prairie, TX, won his second miniMarathon in the Men’s Division with a time of 1:04:02. He also won the race in 2013. Grace Wambui Nganga of Floral Park, NY, won the Women’s Division with a time of 1:12:14.
Bryan Morseman of Bath, NY, won his second consecutive full Marathon in the Men’s Division with a time of 2:24:22. He also won the Marathon in 2015. Allison Fiorini of Allentown, PA, won the Women’s Division in the Marathon with a time of 3:02:19.
