05/12/22 – DERBY FESTIVAL ROBOTICS TOURNAMENT RETURNS SATURDAY

May 12, 2022. Louisville, KY. – Get ready to ROBORUMBLE! The 2022 Samtec RoboRumble Regional Robotics Tournament returns Saturday, May 14, at Marion C. Moore High School. The regional STEM robotics competition, hosted by the Kentucky Derby Festival Foundation and coordinated by Jefferson County Public Schools, challenges students and teams to design, build and compete with robots. The competition begins at 9 a.m. with the awards ceremony following at 1 p.m. Doors open at 8 a.m.

This is Samtec’s fourth year as Title Sponsor of the event. Their 32-ft-long Maker Mobile will also be on site for the students to experience. The mobile makerspace contains CNC equipment – laser cutters, 3D-printers, and more – to help educate and inspire future innovators.

The 2022 RoboRumble will include five events:

  • RXC Robotics Challenge requires teams to program their robot to solve specific challenges within time restraints.
  • Sumobot Competition is a double-elimination tournament. In each round, two robots will attempt to remove or disable one another while remaining on an elevated circular platform.
  • Live Programming event involves on-the-spot programming. Teams are given multiple tasks at the competition. They then have two hours to build or program their robot to successfully complete those tasks.
  • Robotic Usage has students focus on creating a robot under one of two functions; either it is a transformation of another item or it transforms the way one would perform a task.
  • Sphero Hero features a team of students creating an original (short) dramatic story, making an obstacle course as the stage for their story, and programming a Sphero to navigate the stage autonomously while students narrate their tale to judge.

Samtec is Title Sponsor of the RoboRumble Regional Robotics Tournament, joining Presenting Sponsors Ford Motor Company and ZEON. The event is coordinated by Jefferson County Public Schools.
