08/23/23 – REGISTRATION OPENS THURSDAY FOR PNC TOUR DE LOU

PARTICIPANTS CAN LOCK IN SPECIAL PRICING OPENING WEEK

August 23, 2023. Louisville, KY. – Registration for the Kentucky Derby Festival’s annual cycling experience – the PNC Tour de Lou – opens Thursday, August 24 at 10 a.m. The event, which has been a community tradition for more than a decade, is scheduled for Sunday, April 14, 2024. Riders can register at KDF.org/TourdeLou and will receive special pricing during the opening week of registration.

“For more than a decade, the PNC Tour de Lou has been a unique way to tour the city on two wheels during our favorite time of year,” said Matt Gibson, Kentucky Derby Festival President & CEO. “It’s become a signature Derby Festival event for cyclists at all experience levels and we look forward to welcoming participants from around the country to ride with us in 2024.”

The PNC Tour de Lou will again take place on a Sunday in 2024. Riders can explore Louisville on two wheels and pass through some of the city’s scenic parks, neighborhoods and historic spots, including Churchill Downs (home of the Kentucky Derby). The Metric Century course encompasses two states – Kentucky and Indiana.

PNC Bank returns as the Title Sponsor of Tour de Lou for the 11th year.

“As a national main street bank, PNC is committed to supporting the financial, physical and personal health of our employees, customers and communities,” said Kristen Byrd, PNC regional president for Louisville. “We look forward to welcoming cyclists of all ages and abilities to the 2024 PNC Tour de Lou, an annual event that brings our community together for a time of fitness and fun while creating economic impact for local businesses.”

There are three separate cycling distances, and special pricing will be available the week registration opens (Aug. 24-31). Prices for all ride options will increase at midnight on Sept. 1.

All cycling distances will be an open course, no streets closed. Distances and pricing options include:

  • 20 miles – Ideal for beginners or those new to cycling ($40)
  • 35 miles – Ideal for moderate/experienced riders ($50)
  • 62.1 miles (Metric Century) – Ideal for advanced riders or those looking for a challenge ($65)

Starting times are staggered based on distance: Metric Century – 8 a.m., 35-mile ride – 8:10 a.m., 20-mile ride – 8:20 a.m.

A virtual alternative is also available for those who prefer to log their miles on their own. Riders who participate in the virtual option ($45) can still choose to complete the 20-, 35- or 62.1-mile distance. Participants can ride at their own pace – and even their own route – over multiple days.

All participants in the 2024 PNC Tour de Lou will receive a ride shirt, swag bag and an invitation to the post-ride party to celebrate. For more information about the PNC Tour de Lou and to register for the event, visit KDF.org/TourdeLou.

While registering, riders can also pre-order the Official Tour de Lou bike jersey (made of a 100 percent moisture wicking, polyester fabric featuring a ¾ zipper, three back pockets and a silicone waist gripper). Available in sizes XS-3XL, the special design will be revealed at a later date.

Specific course and route details will be released in early 2024.
