6/27/2014 – ART GALLERY TO SHOWCASE WINNING ARTWORK CREATED BY LOCAL STUDENTS

June 27, 2014. Louisville, KY.  Beginning next week, winning artwork created by local students will be on display at the Huff Gallery at Spalding University.  The special exhibit opens on Tuesday, July 1st, with the opening reception scheduled from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. that evening.  The pieces are from the Kentucky Derby Festival Foundation Student Art Contest presented by Kentucky School of Art.  More than 30 Kentuckiana students from grades K-12 were selected as winners in the annual spring competition.

A panel of local artists selected the winners.  Of the hundreds of entries, the most popular themes among the winning artwork this year were Derby Festival, the U.S. Bank Great Balloon Race, Republic Bank Pegasus Parade, and Thunder Over Louisville. Seven students from Breckinridge-Franklin Elementary under the direction of Sarah Maxwell Miller had winning entries. There were six winners from the Catholic school system.

The winning artwork will be on display July 1 – August 1 at the Huff Gallery at Spalding University. The Festival has offered this opportunity for area students to showcase their creative skills since 1977.

Kentucky School of Art at Spalding University is the presenting sponsor of this year’s event.
